Furthermore, god will be analyzed as a figure who is able to embody what one wants him to be, and who represents Celie’s sanity and security. God is able to represent whatever it is one wants or needs him to be. He portrays all that is good in the world. For instance, God can be seen as the trees, the sky, or the flowers. In Celie’s mind, he is initially a white man with a beard, however, throughout the novel and with Shugs advice, Celie discovers that God is in everything and does not have one definitive appearance.
God is the only thing which keeps Celie hopeful, he is
her salvation. Moreover, without her letters to god Celie would lose her
sanity, these were crucial and gave her an avenue of communication. They are
the one stable and secure thing in her life, which she relies on.Her
continuous letters to god throughout the book symbolize her reliance on god to
keep her secure, safe and sane throughout all the chaos and abuse she
experiences.
